River beaches

There are many beautiful rivers in the area, such as Rio Nabão, Almonda, Alviela, Zêzere and Rio Tejo. You can certainly swim in most rivers and there are many river beaches, praias fluviais in Portuguese. In warm weather you can cool off in the river and it is a perfect place for a picnic under the shady trees.

Praia Fluvial dos Olhos d' Água is located at the origin of the Aviela River, near the town of Alcanena on the edge of the Serras de Aire e Candeeiros Natural Park. You can take a beautiful, short walk along the waterfall and there are many cycling and walking routes.

The Castelo do Bode reservoir, located in the Zêzere river, is a 35-40 minute drive away. It is one of the largest in Portugal and is 60 km long. Surrounded by leafy vegetation, mainly pine trees, the reservoir offers perfect opportunities for water sports, swimming and sunbathing.

One of the most beautiful is Praia Fluvial do Agroal, near the town of Ourém, on the Nabão River. It is also the starting point of the kayak tours on this river.
